How to Monetize Your Blog

Can blogging make you rich? Yes, it can. But it takes work.

Surveys show that the top 20% of bloggers can earn anything from $500 and up per month. The top 4% earn as much as $10,000+ per month in revenue.

Needs work, we know. Even then, monetizing your blog is an essential step. You need to start earning extra cash from your content.

There's no one way to make money online. To monetize your blog, there are a few things you can do that can make yourself some cash.

If you want to know how to monetize your content, we have all the ways you can do it. Take a look what fits your skills and get ready to earn some serious cash.

Before We Start Monetization

Before we delve deeper into how we can make money off your blog, we need to give some takeaways first. For one, it's best not to discourage yourself by how much traffic your blog gets right now. That's more realistic if you're starting now.

Earning money from your blogs will take time. You would want to foster a good relationship with your community first. After that, you need to be persistent with your content.

Don't stop blogging because you're growing slow.

No success story happens overnight - whether it's for blogging or even YouTubers. Patience, persistence, and setup are required.

Be insistent in finding ways to get your message out in the open. Be an expert in your niche and get people's trust. Once you do, you can expert your earnings to skyrocket.

1. One-on-One Coaching Sessions

Private coaching is an excellent way to leverage your content for monetization. The thing is, every person may have a different topic and niche that they are de facto experts.

Some people will be good at web design. Some are well-versed with programming. Some are good with psychology.

By using your content to build yourself up, you can talk to your prospects and offer one on one coaching. The allure of one on one coaching is on the level of focus that every session has.

Unlike webinars, one-on-one coaching is more intimate. It directs all the niche "secrets" towards the customer. This, in turn, creates a certain level of premium that can earn you some decent money if done right.

How Can You Monetize Your Blog with Coaching?

Coaching is a viable way to monetize your blog because of the nature of human life itself.

The people you're coaching may experience problems in their lives. These problems need resolution, and it's your job as their coach in that niche to help them resolve the issue. It's your job to help them find a way to manage the challenges ahead.

Push them in a positive direction so they can continue in your care. Humans are, by nature, looking for help as a form of socialization.

By easing your customer's pain, you can get loyalty and satisfaction. Loyalty and satisfaction mean money so you can keep helping them.

You would also want a high-quality business logo that can give a quick recall of your service. Add this to your business cards and brand your content with it.

2. PPC Advertising

The most classic way of monetizing your blog is to get pay-per-click (PPC) ads or Google AdSense for your blog. If you have content that you think people will keep coming back to, it's best to add advertising in it. Google AdSense is the best and most common of them all.

You can subdivide online ads into two types:

  • Earn by clicks
  • Earn by impressions

Earn by clicks lets you earn a certain amount of money every time someone clicks on your ad. On the contrary, earn by impressions earns you money per x-number of page views.

The good thing about Google AdSense is it's compatible with most blog types. This means you can integrate it without any problems into your site's code.

Earning from AdSense varies depending on the amount of traffic you have. Monetizing a blog with ads could make you a pretty penny.

How to Monetize PPC Ads

Like any income generation scheme, it takes a bit of work to earn from Google AdSense. That's especially true with the existence of Adblock software.

The first thing that you want to do is to perform proper ad placement. We don't recommend adding an auto-play ad to your website. It's proven to veer away users.

It's best to use banner type ads and use them in moderation. Google encourages webmasters to put more than one ad. Do this at the risk of customers veering away from your content, though.

If you're not having luck with two to three banner ads per page, limit it to one ad. Place that ad in an area where most of your content concentrates.

As for Adblock users, use a simple and straightforward anti-Adblock overlay. Add a sincere request to disable their blocker on top.

3. Teach Online Courses

Are you teaching your visitors how to do something? Do you think you're a good and efficient teacher? If you're saying "yes" on both, creating courses is another great way to monetizing your blog.

Creating exclusive learning opportunities on various niches can command top dollar online. Sites like Skillshare and Udemy are trying to get a stranglehold of the market. You can make videos for them or be independent and draft your courses.

One of the more common ways to sell people on these courses is to set up multi-week learning sessions. You would want to start on a small but desirable aspect of a niche.

Some sample courses you can do include:

  • An eight-week course: "All About Google Ads"
  • Six-week masterclass: "Getting Site Traffic in 90 Days"
  • A 10-week course: "SEO That Sells"

How much can e-courses sell? Depending on the niche, as high as any of your customers are willing to pay.

As an example, Clickminded charges $997 for their digital marketing course bundle. That's absurd, but their course value is at $3,000 and more.

At the same time, you can also sell services that are parallel to what you're trying to teach on the course. That's for people who are unwilling to go through the process but want the same results for themselves.

Monetizing a Blog for Online Classes

If you're going to leverage online classes, you need to build your reputation.

You want recognition as an expert in your industry. Research and learn every part of the masterclass you're selling.

The course that you're building for monetization should be useful, unique, and engaging to its audience. It needs to solve common problems that people have in their lives.

If you want to monetize your blog, use it as a free resource to funnel customers into your paid courses. Give them bits about generalized topics. Then, position your paid content if they want to learn more.

Also, it's best to have a suggested retail price or SRP for your course and a separate price for value. The SRP is the actual selling price while the valued price is the total value of your master course.

A higher total value imposed side by side with an SRP makes people think they're getting a good deal.

4. Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is a powerful marketing strategy these days. If you have decent traffic, monetizing a blog as an influencer can get you sponsorship posts.

Sponsorship posts tend to vary in value but can be lucrative if you have enough followers. Influencers with up to 100k followers on their blog and social media command up to $5,000 per sponsored post.

If you have a large follower count, like in the millions, this can go as far as $100,000 per campaign.

Monetization Through Sponsored Posts

Leveraging influencer marketing requires a bit of self-promotion and skill. Most influencers are masters of their industries.

People trust their judgment when it comes to products. People listen because they know what they are saying.

Also, influencer blogs tend to string on multimedia. This means videos, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram -- the works!

Influencer marketing is all about showing how good you are. People rely on your confident appraisal of their favorite products.

It's best to run discounts and promos through newsletters as well. It creates a level of interactivity with the audience.

5. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is another great way of monetization for your site and blog. It works much like ads on your site. Instead of big banner ads, however, you have what we call "affiliate links." An example of this is Shopify's affiliate program.

These affiliate links refer to a page where customers buy a product. Anyone who buys using the links provided on your site nets you a specific amount of money in earnings.

How much can affiliate marketing earn you? Top earners in affiliate marketing can generate more than $50,000 in earnings. If you're monetizing your blog with a specific niche of products and use the right images to boost interest, this can go higher.

Monetize Your Blog for Affiliate Programs

To develop a proper affiliate marketing program, think about what your audience wants. What kinds of services interest your readers?

Research the different affiliate programs of various companies. That includes details like their commission and payout rates. Learn about their affiliate rules and other details on the black and white.

You would also want to design your site with excellent images and infographics to make your content more engaging.

Finally, make sure you're honest with your audience. Disclose to them the presence of affiliate links and why they're there. Tell them when a post is a paid affiliate promotion or your own opinion.

Where you can, provide a disclosure policy. Being straightforward with your readership adds to your credibility. The Federal Trade Commission also requires you to have such a disclosure system.

6. Self-Publishing eBooks

One of the most classic ways to monetize your blog is to write eBooks. Also called self-publishing, it's a smart way to start selling what you know as a product in your industry.

You can sell any knowledge that you have on any niche. Whether it's for special diets, cooking, history, or self-help knowledge, it's easy to publish eBooks and sell them. You can earn money by selling them on your site, eBook platforms, or as digital products in Amazon.

How much can you earn by self-publishing an eBook? That depends on the niche.

Household names tend to receive an average of $5,000 per published eBook. For new writers, this can go a bit lower. Overnight success stories can go as high as 5-figures.

Monetizing a Blog for Self-Publishing

How do you get more success in self-publishing? Like all methods on how to monetize, it requires a good level of mastery of your subject. You want to provide engaging content to your audience, regardless of your topic.

Most ebooks range between 5,000 to 30,000 words. This length is suitable for self-help books, non-fiction, recipe books, and fiction.

Motivated writers can finish eBooks within a week to four weeks on average, depending on the topic.

Make sure your eBook has top quality cover art and graphics as well. They cost a lot but it's worth it. Since the cover will get a post on the seller platform, a good cover is half the battle.

Once you published your eBook, do your best to market it on your blogs. Support the content in the book through your blog platform. Leverage it as an upgrade to your free content.

How To Monetize with Better Design
